Hello everyone.
My name is Jody
Harris, I am a 46-year-old guy, living in Cape Town, South Africa. I am a
father to an amazing little 8yr old boy.
For most of my
life, I have worked full-time as an Emergency Care Provider and as a volunteer
in the same field, dedicating my life the care of others, mostly strangers.
On 11 September
2023 (9/11, how is that) A large tumour was discovered in my brain, and on 19
September 2023, I had brain surgery to remove it, and it was discovered to be
stage 4 cancer. After a stay in hospital and rehab (I had extreme speech
difficulties and a very weak right hand and arm) I was sent home with a
pharmacy of medications, excluding the chemo drugs.
Today, 19
October 2023, I had my first introductory visit at the Oncology Care Centre and
was told that I will be having 6 months of oral chemotherapy and 30 sessions of
specialized radiotherapy.
Other than
extreme fear, I face a huge issue - that is transport from my house to the
Oncology Care Centre and then back again (sessions are roughly 30min each)
every Monday to Friday
I do own a
vehicle, but may not drive it, especially after having my brain zapped.
I have looked
to Uber, but that would cost me roughly R140 one way, and in excess of R6500 or
so, for the 6 weeks, which I cannot afford.
For most of you
who know me, I hate to ask for help, I despise it.
However,
I sit now in a literal life-or-death situation, where I need to put my pride in
my pocket and ask for help. I know many people try scam others and I am willing
to prove all of this, to settle your mind !!!
What am I
asking? Well, one or both:
1) Financial
donations in any amount so that a can use Uber
2)
A lift from my house to Panorama MediClinic (around
15km), and someone to wait for 30 minutes and bring me home (I am willing to
help with some fuel)
